Investigation into Fatal Crash at 4400 Katy Freeway

Houston police are investigating the fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred at 4400 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 12:25 a.m. Sunday (May 20).

The identity of the female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer J. Hill reported:

The victim and her boyfriend got in a verbal argument while traveling on the Katy Freeway.  The victim's boyfriend pulled the vehicle over on the right shoulder of the freeway and the victim called her mother to pick her up.  The mother arrived, and, as the victim got out of her boyfriend's vehicle, she was struck by a white Toyota Corolla.  The victim's mother heard the accident and, realizing her daughter had been hit, then pulled her daughter to the median. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined the Corolla was traveling eastbound on the freeway when the victim attempted to cross the main lanes and was struck.  The driver of the Corolla remained at the scene and was questioned and released.
