Investigation into Fatal Crash at 7301 Gulf Freeway

November 5, 2018 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 7301 Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) around 8:10 a.m. on Sunday (November 4).

The identity of the male victim, 74, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Maness and Officer J. Perrotte reported:

According to witnesses, the victim was operating a black motorcycle northbound on the Gulf Freeway at the above address.  As he was entering the exit ramp to the South Loop West (South Interstate Highway 610 West) he struck a puddle of water which caused the motorcycle to hydroplane and strike the concrete barrier.  The victim and his passenger, a 55-year-old female, were both ejected from the motorcycle with the motorcycle coming to a rest on top of the woman.

The male victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The passenger, the victim's wife, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
