Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 5200 North Freeway

January 2, 2019 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 5200 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 1).

The suspect, Carlos Salazar-Roque (H/m, 26), is charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #9.  A booking photo of Salazar-Roque, who remains hospitalized, is not available at this time.  

The identity of the deceased female victim, 44, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer G. Anderson reported:

The victim was driving a black Chevrolet Caprice westbound on Burress Road and had stopped at a stop sign.  She failed to yield the right of way leaving the stop sign and was struck by a black Dodge Charger traveling southbound on the North Freeway service road.  The victim and Salazar-Roque, the driver of the Dodge, were transported to Greater Houston Memorial Hermann Hospital where the victim was pronounced deceased.

Salazar-Roque was determined to be intoxicated and he was subsequently charged in the crash.
