Suspect Arrested, Charged in Crash at 7500 Harrisburg

January 22, 2019 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a crash that occurred at 7500 Harrisburg about 1:15 a.m. on Sunday (January 20).  

The suspect, Isreal Suarez Lugo (H/m, 35), is charged with intoxication assault in the 339th State District Court.  A booking photo of Lugo is attached to this news release.  

One female victim, 5, was transported to Texas Children's Hospital with severe head trauma.   A second female victim, 24, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with broken bones and is expected to survive.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer R. Singelton reported:  

According to a witness, suspect Lugo was driving a red GMC Sierra pickup truck westbound and weaving between lanes on Harrisburg.  The driver of a black Cadillac CTS was traveling northbound on South 75th Street, approaching the intersection of Harrisburg, and had the green light.  As Lugo approached the intersection of South 75th, he accelerated and ran the red light, striking the Cadillac as it entered the intersection.  

The 24-year old and five year-old female passengers in the Cadillac were transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to the hospital.  A 15-year-old male passenger in the Cadillac was transported to Texas Children's Hospital as a precaution.  The driver of the Cadillac was transported to Methodist Hospital for evaluation. 

Lugo was detained at the scene, determined to be impaired, and subsequently charged.  The passenger in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released.
