Investigation into Fatal Crash at 8900 Southwest Freeway
July 19, 2019 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 8900 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) service road about 3 p.m. on Thursday (July 18).
The female victim, 64, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer M. Mathews reported:
The victim was riding a bicycle northbound on South Gessner when she attempted to cross the Southwest Freeway service road intersection. At the same time, the driver of an 18-wheeler, also traveling northbound on South Gessner, began turning right onto the Southwest Freeway service road. The victim was struck by the 18-wheeler's trailer.
The driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication.
There are no charges in this incident, as the investigation is continuing.
