Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5900 North Freeway

May 2, 2019 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 5900 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 1:15 a.m. today (May 2).

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodgriguez and Officer J. Broussard reported:

The victim was driving a black Lexus G43 southbound on the North Freeway and had stopped after striking a TXDOT barrier on the freeway.  The vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by an unknown vehicle, spun 180 degrees and caught fire.  The Lexus was then also struck by a red Pontiac Grand Prix, also driving southbound on the North Freeway.  The Grand Prix caught on fire.  The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene.  The driver of the Grand Prix was not injured, remained at the scene and did not show signs of intoxication. 

The investigation is continuing.
