Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting Incident at 2700 West 18th Street

May 31, 2019 - Charges have been filed against a suspect who fired shots at Houston police officers at 2700 West 18th Street about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday (May 29).  

The suspect, Mathew Arron Clements (w/m, 30), is charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a public servant and one count each of felony evading arrest and felon in possession of a weapon in the 182nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Clements is not available at this time, pending further investigation.  

No HPD officers were injured or discharged their duty weapons in the incident.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers R. Naughton and V. Habukiha reported:  

Northwest Patrol Division officers were alerted to several robberies in the area of Hammerly and Bingle, encountered the suspect vehicle (a white pickup truck) and initiated a vehicle pursuit.  During the pursuit, one male exited the vehicle and surrendered to officers.  The other suspect (Clements) remained in the vehicle and continued to evade officers.  As the pursuit reached the above address, Clements fired a weapon at officers but no one was struck.  Clements later abandoned the vehicle in the 100 block of Harris Court and fled on foot.  He was  taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.  

The investigation is continuing.
