Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 10298 East Freeway

April 9, 2020 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 10298 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) service road about 8:35 p.m. on March 22.

The suspect, Latora Xaciera-Dekay Brimzy, 32, is charged with murder in the 176th State District Court for the killing of Teasia Woods, 29.  A booking photo of Brimzy is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives N. Sharp and K. Fregia reported:

Ms. Woods met with the suspect, who was driving a white Hyundai Genesis, at the above address.  When Woods entered the Hyundai, the suspect suddenly drove away.  The suspect drove at a high rate of speed eastbound on the East Freeway service road before turning southbound on Mercury Drive.  

Witnesses observed Woods fall out of the passenger side of the Hyundai onto the roadway.  It was determined she had been shot and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she died.

On March 24, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect's vehicle, a white 2010 Hyundai Genesis.

Further investigation identified Brimzy as the suspect in this case and Brimzy was arrested on Monday (April 6).
