The victim, Crisanta Retana, 51, was pronounced deceased on Sunday (Dec. 27).

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer J. Campbell reported:

Ms. Retana, a pedestrian, was standing next to the front passenger door of a white Ford F-150 work truck parked near a U-turn lane when she and the truck were struck by a black Chevrolet Suburban traveling northbound at the above address.  Paramedics transported Retana to an area hospital.  Doctors pronounced her deceased on Sunday (Dec. 27).

The male driver, 29, of the Chevrolet, stated he panicked and thought Retana was going to step into the roadway.  He veered his vehicle to the left, drove up on a curb and struck both the parked Ford and Retana.  The driver did not show signs of intoxication and was questioned and released pending further investigation.
