Investigation into Fatal Crash at 8800 Ley Road

October 15, 2020 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 8800 Ley Road about 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday (October 14).

The identity of the male victim, 19, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Benavidez and Officer G. Anderson reported:

HPD Northeast Patrol Division officers and other witnesses saw a black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driving recklessly at a high rate of speed eastbound near the above address and run a red light at the intersection of Wayside Drive.  Officers made a U-turn to attempt a traffic stop, however, due to the pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed, officers were never able to activate their emergency equipment or catch up to the speeding vehicle.

The pickup truck continued eastbound on Ley Road and ran a red light at the intersection Mesa Road.  The driver lost control, struck a concrete driveway on the right hand side of the street and then struck a tree.  The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the crash.
