Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 5207 Myrtlewood Street

April 30, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 5207 Myrtlewood Street about 2:55 p.m. on April 21.

The suspect, Donald Wayne Mayberry (b/m, 18), is charged with murder and aggravated assault of a family member in the 208th State District Court.  A booking photo of Mayberry is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the death of Amelia Campbell, 35.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives P. Pak and A. Henderson reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found Ms. Campbell in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.  She was subsequently pronounced deceased by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

Investigators learned the shooting occurred as the result of an argument between a separate passenger and a male who lives near the above address.  The male fled the scene following the shooting.

Further investigation identified Mayberry as the suspect in this case.  He was arrested on Thursday (April 29) on unrelated warrants for felony evading arrest and robbery-bodily injury.  Detectives learned Mayberry was out of jail on bond for those two felony cases when this fatal shooting occurred.
