Update on Incident at 1800 Milam

February 12, 2007 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 1800 Milam about 2:40 a.m. February 8.

The suspect, Gamaliel Hernandez Gonzalez (H/m, DOB 5-5-77), is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Erica Ann Garcia, 26, of 722 South 6th Street in La Porte. She suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers S. Jefferson and T.R. Cunningham reported:

Ms. Garcia left a downtown nightclub and was followed by four suspects driving in a black Hummer to the intersection of Milam and St. Joseph, where she stopped for a red light. Two suspects exited the vehicle and Gonzalez walked up to Garcia’s vehicle and shot her from the passenger’s side.

The Hummer was later found at the Gulf Freeway (Interstate 45 South) at Airport Boulevard. Gonzalez was arrested while the three other males were detained, but later released after being interviewed by homicide investigators.

The suspects are acquaintances of the victim.

Suspect Charged, Wanted in Shooting at 4502 Willowbrook Boulevard

August 17, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the shooting of a woman at  4502 Willowbrook Boulevard about 8:30 a.m. last Friday (August 13).  

The suspect, Willie Clifford Benton III (b/m, 23) is charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a family member in the 174th State District Court.  A booking photo of Benton, who is not in custody, is not releasable at this time, pending further investigation.  

The victim, Georgia Lee Baldwin Davis, 67, suffered a graze wound to the leg and was treated at the scene.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence  Division Detective A. Shaikh reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and learned Benton got into an argument with his mother and assaulted her while displaying a handgun.  As Benton was leaving the location in his vehicle, he fired several shots at the house, grazing his grandmother, Ms. Davis, on the right knee.  Houston Fire Department paramedics treated Davis at the scene.  

Benton fled the scene in a maroon Mercedes vehicle with an unknown paper tags.  

The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and Benton was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
