HPD Partners Up For Literacy

April 4, 2005 -- KXLN-TV 45 (Univision), Ford and Scholastic sponsored the "Todos A Leer" family celebration at Port Houston Elementary School April 1, 2005. Houston
police were proud to offer assistance in such a worthwhile effort.

Houston Police Lieutenant Robert Manzo joined other area professionals during kick-off celebrations of this reading initiative, which stresses the importance of daily reading and promotes literacy throughout our community. Lieutenant Manzo stated that it was an honor to be asked to participate in such a worthwhile community event.

Immediately following the kick-off ceremonies, Lieutenant Manzo and the other guests were invited into individual classrooms where they had an opportunity to read several stories to the students. As noted by Manzo, "the children seemed genuinely excited to be a part of this initiative. Their enthusiasm was contagious."

Photos are available of Lieutenant Robert Manzo, assigned to the Houston Police Department Public Affairs Division, reading to a group of second graders at the school.
