Investigation into Fatal Crash at 8700 Eastex Freeway

May 25, 2021 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8700 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 11 p.m. on Monday (May 24).

The male victim, 54, was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer Z. Radcliffe reported:

The victim was walking across the freeway at the above address when he was struck by a black Jeep Wrangler traveling southbound on the freeway.  The driver of the Jeep had observed the vehicle in front of her suddenly brake and swerved onto the right shoulder to avoid hitting the other vehicle.  When she did so, her vehicle struck the victim. 

The Jeep's driver remained at the scene, showed no signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released.

The investigation is continuing.
