Update: Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 8102 Amelia Street

October 13, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of one male and the wounding of another at 8102 Amelia Street that occurred about 3:25 a.m. on August 25. 

The suspect, Ryan Medina Rios (H/m, 22), is charged with murder, engaging in organized criminal activity and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 338th State District Court. A prior booking photo of Rios is attached to this news release.  

He is accused in the death of Adner Jaciel Funez Cruz, 19.    

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Elsbury and Detective D. Arnold reported:  

The victims were playing basketball in a private parking lot associated with a nearby condominium complex when an unknown suspect(s) fired a weapon at them.  One victim died at the scene.  The second victim was transported to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  

The suspects, described only as two males, fled the scene in a dark-colored, four-door sedan.  

Further investigation identified Rios as the suspect in this case.  The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and Rios was subsequently charged in the incident.
