Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 8306 Gulf Freeway

September 03, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 8306 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 1:50 a.m. today (September 2).  

The suspect, Bernard Cornelious Reed (b/m, 27), is charged with murder and tampering with evidence in the 176th State District Court.  A booking photo of Reed is attached to this news release. 

The identity of the victim, 31, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Homicide Division Detectives T. Andrade and J. Escobar reported:  

Reed was with his uncle at a residence at an apartment complex at the above address and the victim arrived to return the uncle's property.  Reed got into an altercation with the victim and he shot her multiple times.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.  

Reed was detained and questioned at the scene.  He was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
