2nd Update: Second Suspect Arrested, Charged in February Fatal Shooting Incident at 1174 Chamboard Lane

June 2, 2022 - Charges have been filed against a second suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found at 1174 Chamboard Lane about 6:45 a.m. on February 5.

The suspect, Gregory Pellum, 31, is charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court. He is accused in the death of Oscar Smith III, 39.

Separately, Shannon Washington, 42, is charged with tampering with evidence - human corpse in the 232nd State District Court. A booking photo of Washington is attached to this news release. HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Heaverlo and A. Dudley reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a person down call in a residential driveway at the above address and found a male unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man (Mr. Smith III) deceased.

Surveillance video determined the vehicle used to leave Smith's body at the above address was a green Toyota Highlander. Further investigation led to detectives locating the SUV, which had multiple bullet holes and blood in its interior. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Shannon Washington, who was subsequently arrested (on February 7) and charged with tampering with evidence.

Detectives believe Smith was involved in a fatal shooting incident at 838 Oak Street earlier that morning (February 5) and was shot while fleeing the scene. Two men were pronounced deceased in that incident, which is believed to be drug-related.

Subsequent investigation developed information on Pellum's involvement and. on March 16, a murder charge was filed. Pellum was arrested on Wednesday (June 1) and booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center without incident.
