February 22, 2007 -- Houston police homicide investigators have released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of another at 8800 Hammerly about 11:35 p.m. on Feb. 17.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and 150 to 170 pounds. He has a shaved head or close cut haircut and speaks English and Spanish. A copy of the composite sketch is attached to this news release.

The deceased victim, Prisiliano Arizmendez, 47, of 8800 Hammerly #1205, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died from his injuries on Tuesday (Feb. 20) at Ben Taub General Hospital. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Gonzalez and Officer R. Chappell reported:

Mr. Arizmendez was leaving a parking lot when the suspect approached him and demanded his wallet. The second victim saw the confrontation as the suspect shot Arizmendez. When the second victim fought with the suspect, he was shot. Both victims were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

The suspect was seen leaving in a blue, older-model, two-door vehicle, with several other individuals inside.

Due to the nature of the crime, investigators believe this suspect might be involved in committing other crimes in the surrounding area where this shooting occurred.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer T. Smith reported:

According to witnesses, the male was seen lying on the ground near the above address.  It is believed he grabbed the rear of a vehicle of unknown make or model while it was stopped at a traffic light.  The male either let go or lost his grip from the vehicle and struck the concrete pavement at the above address.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male to  Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

It is possible the driver was not aware the male was riding on the back end of the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or identity of the driver being sought for questioning is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072.
