VOLUNTEER INITIATIVES PROGRAM - Ministers Against Crime
The Ministers Against Crime component involves ethnically and denominationally diverse ministers who participate in community activities in support of the Houston Police Department. The members serve as police-community consultants and are called upon to assist in crisis or civil unrest situations. Ministers Against Crime meet monthly and develop projects to address issues relevant to the communities they represent.
Program Purpose
To provide ministerial and social services to victims of crime and their families, as well as to the diverse needs of the community.
To encourage the community’s participation in crime prevention efforts.
To promote peace and understanding between the police department and the citizens of Houston.
Program Projects
Project Safe Start – provides a ministerial and police presence on campuses of several area school districts to assist in preventing student disruptions on the last day of school.
On-going mentoring and intervention on school campuses.
Participation in multi-cultural workshops and other activities promoting unity and understanding between ethnic groups.
Neighborhood improvement projects and dissemination of information on police policy.
