Comida Food Drive 2006

I am proud to report that the 2006 “Comida” Food Drive was an overall success. Through the hard work and cooperative effort of volunteers and department employees, the Houston Police Department was able to meet its goal of providing food to 3,500 needy families during the Christmas Holidays. During the food drive, police officers and volunteers collected 180 cartons of food and $49,097.50 in cash donations from generous citizens at 19 Houston-area Fiesta stores. All the money was used to purchase bulk food supplies.

I want to thank Fiesta Mart Inc. and The Pepsi Bottling Group for their sponsorship of this valuable community event. I want to also give a warm thank you to the Houston Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and Hispanic Ministers Against Crime for their partnership in providing volunteers to help collect money and food. A special thanks to the department employees for their time and support in representing the Houston Police Department during this very important community event. Lastly and most importantly, a grateful and sincere thank you to all the citizens who unselfishly donated during our food drive to help the less fortunate during the holidays.
