THE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT JOINS HOUSTON ARTISTS FOR RECYCLED ART EXHIBITION

Transitions – An Exploration of Recycled Art

(August 3, 2012 – Houston, TX) The City of Houston’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) and The Center for Recycled Art today announced the grand opening of the art exhibit Transitions – An Exploration of Recycled Art.  The exhibit features local artists that specialize in using recycled material in their work, some of which came from the SWMD’s own facilities The Reuse Warehouse and the Environmental Service Center South.  The art exhibit will run from August 3, 2012 through August 24, 2012 and will take place in the Bob Lanier Public Works Building, 611 Walker, Ground Level Lobby, which is managed by the City of Houston’s Public Works & Engineering Department.

“The SWMD is committed to promoting innovative ways of diverting material from the landfill.  Thanks to individuals like these artists, we’re not only helping the environment but also creatively making our world a better place,” said SWMD Director Harry Hayes.

“This project fits in well with The Center for Recycled Art's mission, which is to reduce the amount of reusable materials going to Houston’s landfills, to promote environmental awareness, to stimulate creativity, and to provide opportunities to create recycled art,” added Ramona Brady, Director of the Center for Recycled Art.
