The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD), in partnership with Keep Houston Beautiful and DRC Emergency Services, Inc., is celebrating the spirit of giving this holiday season by donating 50 bicycles to boys and girls between the ages of 6-12. The bicycles were handed out to children and other agencies on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Thomas “Buck” Buchanan Service Center.

Mayor Turner along with Houston City Council Members and City Controller were asked to identify a child or an agency to donate a bike to in their name.

“Every child deserves a bike. Riding a bike is a treasured childhood memory.” said SWMD Director Harry Hayes. “This tradition is something we are delighted to be part of and hope it will continue to bring happiness to children during the holidays.”

“Bicycles and books are the perfect ingredients of a wonderful holiday tradition. Keep Houston Beautiful looks forward to helping to make children smile during this festive season.” said Robin Blut, Executive Director.
