September 27, 2005 - The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) has suspended curbside recycling services until further notice. The Curbside Recycling crews and equipment will be utilized to collect storm debris that resulted from Hurricane Rita.
The Solid Waste Management Department will continue to offer residents recycling opportunities at the various drop-off sites around Houston:
- Westpark Consumer Recycling Center, 5900 Westpark
(tires, latex paint, batteries, oil, electronic scraps, anti-freeze also) - Kirkpatrick Depository, 5565 Kirkpatrick (tires and oil also)
- Lawndale Depository, 9200 Lawndale (tires and oil also)
- Sunbeam Depository, 5100 Sunbeam (tires and oil also)
- 3602 Center Street (open 24/7)
- 1200 Brittmore
- 1245 Judiway (glass only)
- Kingwood Park and Ride at 3210 W. Lake Houston Parkway
(2 nd & 4 th weekends of the month) - Ellington Field at Highway 3 @ Dixie Farm Road- (open 24/7)
- Environmental Service Center (South) 11500 South Post Oak (for household hazardous waste and scrap electronic recycling only)
At the recycling drop-off sites, the department accepts newspaper, magazines, office paper, glass food and beverage bottles and jars, #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs, aluminum and tin cans, and cardboard boxes unless otherwise stated.
