CLEAR LAKE AREA SOON TO RECEIVE CITY OF HOUSTON SOLID WASTE SERVICES
January 9, 2008 - Beginning February 4, 2008, the City of Houston will begin providing solid waste management services to 4,337 Clear Lake residents due to the contract cancellation of the private hauler by the Clear Lake Community Association. The affected Clear Lake communities are Camino South, Oak Brook, Oakbrook West and Meadow Green.
The City of Houston has contracted with Toter, Inc., a private company which has been in business over 20 years and is one of the largest manufacturers and deliverers of residential garbage containers in the country. Toter will deliver cans to the Clear Lake area January 14-18, 2008. The cans will be placed in front of each house; however, residents are not to place their cans with garbage until their scheduled City of Houston garbage collection day beginning February 4, 2008.
The Solid Waste Management Department will be providing the area with Automated Garbage, Yard Trimmings, and Heavy Trash collection services.

Solid Waste Management Department Director Harry J. Hayes said, "We are working closely with the Clear Lake City Community Association to provide a smooth transition for the residents. We look forward to the opportunity to serve Clear Lake ."
Mike Sullivan, Houston City Council Member District E, applauds the efforts put into this transition. "The teamwork between our Solid Waste Department, the Clear Lake City Community Association, and residents we have talked with has been extraordinary. It is the goal of everyone involved to make this as successful as possible."
Residents were mailed letters December 21, 2007 to inform them of the upcoming change of service providers, as well as with their new temporary service days for City collection services.
