NEW NEIGHBORHOOD DEPOSITORY OPENS IN SOUTHEAST HOUSTON

February 15, 2008 - The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department will dedicate its new Southeast Neighborhood Depository and Recycling Center on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 2:00 pm at 2240 Central Street, (Key Map 535 L).

This state-of-the-art facility replaces the 9200 Lawndale location.  It consists of a concrete ramp for unloading heavy trash into 40 cubic yard roll-off boxes ("dumpsters") and a concrete block service building, as well as a drop-off for recycling.  Solid Waste Management Department Director Harry Hayes said, "We are excited about the opening of this site.  At the old southeast site (Lawndale) we were only able to accommodate 1-2 vehicles at a time.  Now we will be able to accommodate 10 vehicles at a time plus we offer Houstonians additional opportunities to recycle."

Neighborhood depositories provide citizens with a drop-off point to discard heavy trash before their scheduled once-per-month heavy trash pick up day.  This service is provided at no additional cost to the citizen.  The three other neighborhood depositories (and webpage links) are:

5565 Kirkpatrick
713.675.3208
5100 Sunbeam
713.738.1936
6023 Windfern
713.895.1003
