December 19, 2008 -- The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) in partnership with Keep Houston Beautiful and DRC, Inc. will help spread holiday cheer with a donation of 30 bicycles and books to boys and girls between the ages of 8-12. The distribution of bicycles and books to a child or agency will be on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Keep Houston Beautiful building, 3000 Richmond Avenue.
SWMD Director Harry Hayes said, “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smile of a child…We are pleased to join our partners in giving away these bikes to these Houston children.” KHB Director Robin Blut said, “We offer our deepest gratitude to the individuals and organizations that raised funds to make the holiday season a little brighter for a family in need.” Houston City Council Members were asked to identify a family or agency to award one bicycle in their name.
The Solid Waste Management Department provides solid waste services to the citizens of Houston through the collection, disposal and recycling of discarded material in a manner that is safe, efficient, environmentally-sound and cost-effective.
