Founded in 1955, Houston Grand Opera has matured into one of the United States’ most respected companies. Through the years it has earned a reputation for presenting ambitious new works along with the traditional operatic repertoire. Since 1973, Houston Grand Opera has unveiled 30 world premieres along with six American premieres. Accepting the proclamation on behalf of HGO during the City Council session were HGO board president John S. Arnoldy, general director David Gockley and music director Patrick Summers.
In his remarks to City Council, Gockley expressed his appreciation of the governing body’s support for HGO’s programming and global outreach. He also praised Dawn Ullrich, director of the City’s Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department, for her efforts in operating and maintaining Wortham Center, HGO’s home venue. |
