August 21, 2012 Reduced Adoption Fees at BARC August 24 - August 31 BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is celebrating the "Dog Days of Summer" with an exciting adoption event Saturday, August 25 - Sunday, August 26, 2012, noon to 6 p.m. at BARC 3200 Carr Street, Houston, 77026. On Saturday, August 25, BARC will have a beach party with splash pools for the dogs, games for kids, prizes and more. Friday, August 24 - Friday, August 31, 2012, adoption fees will be reduced to $20 for dogs/puppies and $10 for cats/kittens. The fees for the first 50 dogs and the first 50 cats will be waived, as they have been sponsored by donations from previous adopters. BARC volunteers, staff and supporters are working diligently to reach a goal of 2,100 dog and cat adoptions to win the national ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. Since August 1, 2012, more than 460 BARC dogs and cats have gone home with their forever families. With Houston's help, BARC can win the competition and save more lives than ever. To help build momentum for another big adoption week at BARC, Mayor Annise Parker is showcasing two of BARC's many adorable adoptables in the Mayor's Pets of the Week. Mayor Parker's Pets of the Week: Chance (left) and Senorita (right) Senorita is a 16 week-old German Shepherd/Pointer/Doberman Pinscher mix puppy. She is a little shy when you first meet her, but quickly becomes very friendly and playful. She is a lap dog in the making. She has a primarily black coat with a white chest and paws, and a splash of brown in several places. Senorita's Animal ID is A1094575. Chance is a 14 week-old Brown Tabby Domestic Short Hair mix kitten. He is very playful and loves attention. He enjoys exploring, but changes gear and purrs away when you hold him (and scratch between his ears). He has a shiny black and brown coat and big, adorable ears. Chance's Animal ID is A1094540. Chance and Senorita are two of many cats and dogs that have received their age-appropriate vaccinations, have been spayed or neutered and are at BARC waiting for their new home, so stop by today and adopt a new best friend! Visit www.Facebook.com/BARCHouston to find out more about Chance, Senorita and other animals at BARC. Update on last week's Mayor's Pets of the Week: Louise, the Pointer mix puppy, has been adopted. Jasper, the adorable and playful white and tan Domestic Short Hair mix kitten is still available for adoption at the Petco located at Westheimer and Wilcrest. If you are unable to permanently adopt a pet but would like to help animals in need, BARC encourages you to consider becoming a volunteer or foster parent at BARC.
