Free Smoke Detector Installation in Your Area

HFirefighters from the Houston Fire Department (HFD) and volunteers from CenterPoint Energy will be in your area Saturday, October 30, 2010 between 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. to install free smoke detectors as a part of the "Get Alarmed Houston" free smoke detector campaign.

If you live between Patton and Cottage and Northwood and Vincent, volunteers will visit you to offer this free service. If you will not be home or do not receive a free smoke detector on this day, you can visit any HFD Fire Station to receive your free smoke alarm. See www.houstontx.gov/fire for station locations and other important fire information.

Smoke detector installations are also available by appointment. Please call the HFD Public Affairs main number, 713-495-7900 to schedule an installation.

Working smoke detectors save lives. It is just that simple. Your risk of dying in a house fire greatly increases if you do not have a working smoke detector in your home. So test your smoke detectors every month and if the batteries are bad, replace them. Install and maintain your detectors to manufacturer's specifications and replace your detector every 5 years.

"Get Alarmed Houston" is 100% funded by private and corporate donations. If your corporation would like the opportunity to be a part of this life saving service or if you have any questions concerning this program, please contact Paul Box at the HFD Public Affairs office at 713-495-7916 or paul.box@houstontx.gov.
