MORE BOOKS, NEW COMPUTERS MAKE A VISIT TO THE JOHNSON LIBRARY MORE FUN THANKS TO A GIFT FROM "THE NEIGHBORHOOD"

The Southeast Coalition of Civic Clubs is presenting a $60,000 check to the Houston Public Library to benefit the materials collection and the technology at the Johnson Neighborhood Library. This donation is the culmination of an ongoing fundraising effort by the community, which included everything from barbecue dinners to foundation proposals. More than $10,000 has been allocated for books and DVDs, and nearly $50,000 has been allocated for the purchase of laptops, computers and computer monitors.

The check presentation will take place at the Johnson Neighborhood Library located at 3517 Reed Road. The event takes place Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.

Mayor Bill White will be joined by U.S. Congressman Al Green; Texas State Representative Borris Miles; Houston Public Library Director Rhea Brown Lawson, Ph.D. and Community leaders Willie Alexander and Bessie Swindell.
