January 3, 2012 Mayor Annise Parker's Second Inaugural Address Dear Citizens of Houston, Thank you again for honoring me with your trust and your hopes as I begin my second term as your Mayor. To serve you remains my highest aspiration. I love the City of Houston! I am happy to report that Houston, in the middle of the recession, is still the number one job creating city in America and the best place to live, work and raise a family. And that's why we must do even better in the future. For the next two years, my number one priority is to continue to bring more jobs to Houston. We will expand the programs we have already started to stimulate small business with access to loans and training. We will continue the Hire Houston First policy. We will work tirelessly to increase our role as the energy capital of the world and a world leader in the next high tech industrial revolution. As we continue to navigate this city through the toughest economy in generations, my administration will remain focused on five pillars:
We are a city that knows how to turn potential problems into possibilities. We dream great dreams, but then make them happen. Whether you find your strength in God, in family, in friends, or in your own two hands, Houston deserves no less than our shared vision, our firm commitment, our hard work and a continued leap of faith. Let us greet our future together! Respectfully, Annise Parker
