November 18, 2014 Preservation Texas Honors 2014 Award Winners in Houston Mayor Annise Parker and several Houston projects were recognized at the Preservation Texas recognizes award-winning historic preservation efforts that demonstrate the value of high-quality historic structures and require minimal public infrastructure improvements, stimulate the economy and ensure that local landmarks will endure for generations to come. Mayor Parker was acknowledged for her leadership in gaining city council approval of a stronger historic preservation ordinance that protects 6700 structures in the city’s 19 historic districts from demolition and inappropriate alterations.
These outstanding projects join other award-winning preservationists and preservation efforts across the state. Tickets to the event are $40 for Preservation Texas members and $50 for non-members and include a reception with beer, wine and light hors d'oeuvres, which will precede the ceremony at 5:00 pm.
