Preservation Texas Honors 2014 Award Winners in Houston

Mayor Annise Parker and several Houston projects were recognized at the
Preservation Texas
2014 statewide Honors Awards Ceremony held this Saturday November 22, 2014 at the recently restored 1910 Harris County Courthouse.

Preservation Texas recognizes award-winning historic preservation efforts that demonstrate the value of high-quality historic structures and require minimal public infrastructure improvements, stimulate the economy and ensure that local landmarks will endure for generations to come.

Mayor Parker was acknowledged for her leadership in gaining city council approval of a stronger historic preservation ordinance that protects 6700 structures in the city’s 19 historic districts from demolition and inappropriate alterations.
Houston-area winners include:

  • Preservation of the pre-1866 Fourth Ward Cottage owned by the Heritage Society of Houston
  • Rehabilitation of the circa 1926 Julia Ideson Building owned by the City of Houston
  • Rehabilitation of the 500 Fanning Building owned by 500 Fannin LLC, built in 1932
  • Rehabilitation of the 1956 Sylvan Beach Pavilion in LaPorte owned by Harris County

These outstanding projects join other award-winning preservationists and preservation efforts across the state.

Tickets to the event are $40 for Preservation Texas members and $50 for non-members and include a reception with beer, wine and light hors d'oeuvres, which will precede the ceremony at 5:00 pm. Tickets may be purchased online at www.preservationtexas.org/2014-honor-awards-houston-texas/
