Mayor Annise Parker and the Department of Neighborhoods (DON) will sponsor a cleanup and beautification project in Shepherd Park, 4600 Brinkman, Houston 77018, Saturday, October 5, 2013, 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Mayor Parker will welcome residents, civic leaders and volunteers at 9:30 a.m. A re-dedication of Ann's Labyrinth, in memory of park founder Ann Scardino, will follow. Cleanup and beautification activities will begin at 9:40 a.m. Junior volunteers from Durham Elementary School and Boys Scouts Troop 604 will help with the project. The activities will include de-littering throughout the park and mulching in the community garden.

Mayor Parker will assist with the project and visit with residents about neighborhood concerns until 11 a.m.  Houston Police Department (HPD) North Patrol Division will also be available to address questions from residents between 9:30 and 11 a.m., and Houston City Council Member Ellen Cohen will greet and thank volunteers.

In conjunction with the project, Public Works and Engineering (PWE) crews will service the drainage ditches along Brinkman Street to prevent flooding, starting at 8 a.m. until all work is completed.

This neighborhood improvement effort is supported by the Shepherd Park Plaza Civic Group, Super Neighborhood #12 Central Northwest, Shepherd Park Plaza Garden Club, Shepherd Park Plaza Citizens Patrol, Durham Elementary School, Harris County Constable's Office Precinct 1 and Keep Houston Beautiful.

The project is part of DON's Clean Neighborhoods Campaign, a year-round initiative sponsored in collaboration with BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions (BARC), Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD), HPD, PWE and Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD).
