Veterans Day Parade LogoOn Friday, November 11, 2011, the City of Houston will show support of our Armed Forces during the 13th Annual Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Commemoration and Parade. Below is a list of Friday's activities and events. For more information on each event, see

  • Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony
    10 a.m. on the steps of City Hall
    901 Bagby Street
    Houston 77002
    Join Mayor Annise Parker, elected officials and distinguished veterans for a ceremony honoring all who served.
  • Veterans Day Parade
    11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Smith Street between Texas and Lamar
    Over 140 participating marching units, school bands, military vehicles and floats
  • AT&T Veterans Job Fair
    11 a.m. to 2 p.m. around the Reflection Pool at City Hall
    40 top Houston companies will be recruiting onsite at this FREE job fair.
  • Walgreens Veterans Health Fair
    11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Walker Street at City Hall
    Flu shots and health screenings for veterans

Free parking will be available from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Theater District Parking Garage, 511 Rusk between Bagby and Smith.

NOTE: Friday, November 11, 2011 is a regular Solid Waste Management operating schedule, although the Neighborhood Depositories, the Reuse Warehouse and the Westpark Recycling Center will all be closed, but will reopen Saturday, November 12, 2011. Mayor Annise Parker and the Citizenship Week Steering Committee invite you to celebrate the City of Houston Third Annual Citizenship Week November 13-19, 2011: Celebrating the Many Faces of Houston.

Citizenship Week will underscore how our diverse ethnic and immigrant communities are integrated into the life of our city and how the richness of their traditions and values promotes social cohesion and builds more secure and vibrant neighborhoods. Numerous community and faith based organizations, businesses, educational institutions and grassroots groups have planned events and programs throughout the city to celebrate the common theme of what it means to be a Citizen of the City of Houston: a Houstonian.
