Mayor Turner with Buenos Aires Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta

July 20, 2018 -- Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Buenos Aires Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta (above, right) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on best practices and policies for both cities on tourism, transportation and other issues.

"We are establishing very positive relationships on many subjects. We have put in place a foundation for how we will continue to work together," Mayor Turner said.

"We have to keep looking at best practices across the globe, and then where it works in the City of Houston, we can execute it," he added.

Buenos Aries, with a population of about 3 million people, is a major tourism hub.

The agreement signed by the mayors "will continue to strengthen our relationship and deepen the exchange and cooperation between Buenos Aires and Houston," Rodríguez Larreta said.

Today was the last full day of Mayor Turner's trade mission to South America, which created economic opportunities for Houston through better ties with Peru, Chile and Argentina.
