Prioritizing Public Safety

January 18, 2024 -- Public safety is Mayor John Whitmire’s top priority, and he plans to recruit more police officers while working with the Houston Police Department to reduce crime and make people feel safer.  On Thursday, January 18, he welcomed the 76 women and men from Cadet Class #261 to the ranks of HPD to serve and protect the residents of Houston. It was not his first time attending a cadet graduation, but it was his first as mayor. HPD is still hiring and offering a $10,000 incentive for incoming cadets.
