MEMORIAL PARK GOLF COURSE HISTORY
After a 10 month renovation funded by the Astro’s Golf Foundation, the City of Houston’s flagship course is open for play, and the current host of the PGA Tour Houston Open. The remodeled golf course is now only the second PGA-certified, municipally owned golf course in the country. Improvements to the course were designed by world renowned golf course architect Tom Doak, while Major Champion Brooks Koepka served as PGA Tour consultant on the project. The renovation produced a layout worthy of hosting a major championship, with emphasis on providing enhanced features and enjoyment for golfers of every skill level as well. In addition to the opportunity of playing a world class layout, golfers will enjoy the resurfaced Mini-Verde greens, and expanded practice facilities including a 2-tier, 84 station, double decker driving range. The renovation also produced a newly constructed/relocated maintenance facility, and the implementation of a state-of-the-art storm water retention-based irrigation system capable of capturing 80-million gallons of rain water.
"As a city, we are hugely grateful for the generosity of Jim Crane, his wife and the Astros Golf Foundation for all that they've done and continue to do for the funding of this renovation," Mayor Sylvester Turner
