Twenty Red Light Safety Camera Approaches Added in Houston

August 28, 2007 - In its continuing efforts to increase public safety, the City of Houston has announced 20 red light safety cameras are being added to monitor other approaches at intersections where the cameras are already in use. The cameras will monitor those same intersections from additional directions (approaches). The cameras will be operational by Friday, August 31, and city officials want to emphasize that there will be a 30-day public education period during which time warning notices will be issued before formal Notices of Violation are sent beginning on Monday, October 1.

§ Southbound Tomball Parkway, West Service Road @ F.M. 1960 West
§ Northbound Chimney Rock @ Southwest Freeway, East Service Road
§ Westbound Westheimer @ West Loop South, East Service Road
§ Southbound West Loop South, West Service Road @ Westheimer
§ Westbound West Road @ North Freeway, East Service Road
§ Southbound Hollister @ Northwest Freeway, East Service Road
§ Northbound North Wayside @ East Freeway, South Service Road
§ Eastbound East Freeway, South Service Road @ Market Street
§ Eastbound Beechnut @ West Sam Houston Parkway South, West Service Road
§ Eastbound Beechnut @ South Gessner
§ Northbound Wilcrest @ Southwest Freeway, East Service Road
§ Eastbound Bissonnet @ Southwest Freeway, West Service Road
§ Northbound Hillcroft @ Southwest Freeway, East Service Road
§ Southbound West Loop South, West Service Road @ San Felipe
§ Westbound Richmond Avenue @ Dunvale
§ Southbound Woodridge @ Gulf Freeway, East Service Road

Since the first 10 red light cameras began operating on September 1, 2006, more than 115,000 Notices of Violation have been issued by the Houston Police Department.
