Traffic Incident at 10900 Katy Fwy

August 31, 2007 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 10900 Katy Freeway (Interstate 10 West) about 12:20 a.m. today (Aug. 31).

The suspect, Tony Devan Washington (b/m, DOB: 1/13/62), faces felony charges of intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.

The identity of the female victim, believed to be in her 20s, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D.S. Runyan and Officer J.J. Vera reported:

Two motorcycle riders, one male and one female, were riding separate motorcycles westbound on the Katy Freeway near Wilcrest when a 2000 white Chevrolet Tahoe changed lanes in an unsafe manner and struck the female rider. She was thrown from her 2006 Kawasaki and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, suspect Washington, fled the scene, however, witnesses to the accident followed the suspect to a location on Richmond Avenue and got his license plate number. Washington was arrested several hours later at his residence in the 12300 block of Richmond without further incident.
