New Recruits Begin Academy Training Today

December 10, 2007 - The Houston Police Department continues its efforts to increase the number of officers patrolling the streets of Houston. A fully staffed class of 70 cadets (class 196) began this journey today. The cadets will undergo approximately six months of intense training which will include drivers training, firearms training, defensive tactics, physical training and the study of state and local laws to name a few.

Officers from our Recruiting Unit worked tirelessly completing all necessary paperwork and background investigations required for the cadets to start on time. HPD continues its recruiting effort to fill vacant police officer positions. Recruiters attend sporting events, area malls and college campuses in their quest to find qualified individuals to join the ranks of the Houston Police Department.
