Incident at 13100 North Freeway

July 5, 2007 - Charges are pending against two suspects, one of whom fired shots at a Houston police officer in the 13100 block of the North Freeway about 2 a.m. today (July 5).

The suspects, Christopher D. Williams (b/m, DOB: 12-25-86) and Darrel Ozoh (b/m, DOB: 3-3-85) were arrested and may be charged with attempted capital murder.

Officers A. L. Johns and E. S. Holland, assigned to the North Patrol Division, were both sworn in as officers in July 2005. Officer Johns sustained a minor gunshot wound to his arm and was treated and released at the scene. Officer Holland was not injured during this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Officers E. R. Carstens and J. L. Coffelt reported:

Officers were responding to a robbery call at a restaurant at 200 Aldine-Bender when they observed the suspect’s vehicle fleeing the scene and pursued them. In the 13100 block of the North Freeway, one of the suspects fired multiple shots at the officers, penetrating the front windshield and hitting Officer Johns who was sitting in the front passenger seat. Officer Holland continued following the suspects until both suspects jumped from the vehicle at the North Freeway and Rankin Road, where Williams was immediately taken into custody. Ozoh ran to a nearby hotel and hid in one of the rooms where SWAT members took him into custody.

The investigation is continuing.
