Update on Incident at 7920 Harrisburg

May 14, 2007 - Charges were filed against a suspect wounded by an undercover Houston police narcotics officer at 7920 Harrisburg #2 about 9:10 p.m. on Thursday (May 10).

The suspect, Alejo Castaneda Gonzalez (H/m, DOB: 3-11-30), was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant in the 179th State District Court.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M.Dillingham, T. Huynh and J. Padilla reported:

Officer R. E. Briggs, a 16-year veteran assigned to the Narcotics Division, was conducting an investigation in the area when the armed suspect confronted him. The suspect pointed and fired his .357-caliber Magnum revolver at Officer Briggs, who returned fire once, striking the suspect in the abdomen. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Civil Rights Unit of the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
