Traffic Incident At 9700 State Highway 225 October 16, 2007 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9700 block of State Highway 225 (La Porte Freeway) about 9:30 p.m. on Monday (October 15). The victim, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office. HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer J. Lin reported: The victim was towing a vehicle with his wrecker truck in the center lane of State Highway 225 eastbound when one of the wheels came off the vehicle. The victim stopped his wrecker truck and the vehicle he was towing in the center lane of traffic, and ran over to the right shoulder to look for the wheel. As the victim was attempting to go back to his wrecker truck, a white Isuzu Oasis van traveling east on State Highway 225 swerved to the right to avoid hitting the wrecker and struck the victim.
