Alert Crime Analysis Officer Assists With Arrest

October 25, 2007 - On Monday (October 22) officers responded to a burglary in progress call at 1027 Waverly. An officer riding a K-9 unit advised over the police radio that the possible suspects in the burglary were driving a gold sports utility vehicle. A Central Division crime analysis officer was monitoring the police radio from his office and heard the call and suspect vehicle description provided. This officer immediately recognized the vehicle description matched that of the suspects’ vehicle wanted in numerous other burglaries in the area from a Crime Pattern Bulletin he developed. He then advised the responding units the suspects in his bulletin were seen driving a gold colored Chevrolet HHR vehicle. A patrol sergeant observed the suspect’s vehicle, and with assistance from other officers, stopped the vehicle at 1100 Lawrence. The two suspects, Nelson Mendietta (H/m, DOB: 11/16/81) and David Diaz (H/m, DOB: 3/10/87), were arrested and charged with attempted burglary of a habitation in the 179th State District Court.

These suspects are believed responsible for seven other burglaries and one robbery.

This is another example of the great teamwork our officers in patrol and crime analysis continue to do on a daily basis.
