2nd Update on Incident at 2737 Briargrove Drive #121

September 17, 2007 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal
shooting of a woman at 2737 Briargrove Drive #121 on May 25, 2006.

The suspect, Adrien Lee Caldwell (b/m, DOB: 4/5/74), is charged with capital murder in the 230th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Melanie Diane Parker, 21, of 2737 Briargrove Dr. #121. Ms. Parker was found burned and shot inside her apartment.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T.R. Hernandez and Officers X. Avila and J. Selvera reported:
The Houston Fire Department responded to a fire at 2737 Briargrove Dr. #121 after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the unit. After putting out the fire, HFD personnel found Ms. Parker's body in a bedroom. A preliminary investigation by HFD arson officials revealed the possibility of arson, since only the area around the bed suffered extensive burn damage. An autopsy later determined the cause of death
to be from a gunshot wound.

A follow-up investigation led homicide investigators to identity Caldwell as the suspect in this case. Caldwell, already in jail on an unrelated case, was charged in this murder on September 13.
