Suspect Commits Suicide at 11622 Carvel Lane

August 18, 2008 - A suspect who shot at Houston police patrol and SWAT officers committed suicide at 11622 Carvel Lane about 12:25 a.m. on Friday (August 15).

The suspect, Elvis Alexander Velasquez (H/m, DOB: 1-5-90), suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers R.P. Martinez and T.S. Tyler reported:

Patrol and SWAT officers responded to the scene of a barricaded suspect after family members reported Velasquez shot a gun while inside his bedroom. After officers arrived, Velasquez shot at them several times, but did not strike anyone. Houston police hostage negotiators responded to the scene and attempted to persuade Velasquez to surrender peacefully. Several hours into the incident, Velasquez told negotiators he had something to do and that is when officers heard a single gunshot from within the residence. Velasquez was eventually found deceased inside the residence.
