Fatal Traffic Accident at 100 East 20th Street

December 05, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 100 block of East 20th Street about 1:45 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 4).

The female victim, Ima Jean Archer, 79, of Houston, and her male passenger, Sam Willard King, 91, of Houston, were pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. A. Gonzalez and Officer T. Cox reported:

A silver Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on East 20th Street at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a Chevrolet Impala, occupied by Ms. Archer and Mr. King and another male passenger. The Impala then struck the rear of a gray Ford Explorer and caused it to roll over on its side. The Corolla then continued eastbound for a short distance before it struck a light pole. Archer and King were killed and the female driver of the Corolla was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The other male passenger in the Impala and male driver of the Explorer were also transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
