Suspect Arrested in Fatal Traffic Accident at 2400 Sampson

December 08, 2008 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 2400 Sampson about 7:50 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 7).

The suspect, Troy Shane Gibson (w/m, DOB: 3-7-71), was arrested about 40 minutes after he had fled the scene. He faces a pending felony charge of failure to stop and render aid in the death of a female pedestrian, 42, whose name is being withheld pending notification to family members.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Lefler and Officer A. DeLeon reported:

The female victim was hanging on the driver side of an 18-wheeler type truck (no trailer attached) and talking to the truck’s driver (Gibson). When Gibson put the truck in gear, the victim fell to the ground and under the truck. After running over the victim, Gibson pulled away and failed to stop and render aid.

A witness followed the driver to Baytown where Gibson was stopped and arrested by a Harris County Sheriff’s deputy without incident about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
