Multiple Fatality Accident at US Highway 290 at Mangum

December 26, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at US Highway 290, westbound at Mangum about 3:25 a.m. today (December 26).

The male driver, 16 years old, is in serious condition at Ben Taub General Hospital with various broken bones. Four passengers in his vehicle have been pronounced dead. Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Casares and Officer R. White reported:

The injured 16 year old victim was driving a white 1999 Ford F150 westbound on US Highway 290 at Mangum when he lost control and struck the concrete wall. Three of the victims were pronounced dead initially, while the fourth was pronounced dead later at an area hospital.

There are no signs of intoxication at the time. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will review this case for any possible charges.
