Traffic Incident at 9900 Northwest Freeway January 05, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9900 block of the Northwest Freeway (Highway 290) about 6:15 a.m. today (January 5). The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office. HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant G.T. Hall and Officer D.L. Harwell reported: The driver of a gold Toyota Tacoma was westbound in the 9900 block of the Northwest Freeway when he applied the brakes to avoid slowing traffic ahead of him from another accident. The driver lost control and left the roadway to the right and struck a concrete pillar on the passenger side door. The passenger in the vehicle died at the scene and the driver was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with minor injuries. The investigation is continuing.
